What You Will Be Doing:

As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of employee compensation and benefits. This includes calculating hours worked, managing tax withholdings and deductions, and maintaining compliance with all applicable payroll regulations. You will also play a key role in providing support to employees with payroll-related inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit payroll checks (paper and electronic direct deposit).
  • Collect and manage employee banking information for direct deposit setup and initiate deposits.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of salary, benefits, and other compensation taxation.
  • Process and monitor garnishment orders and other payroll-related specifications.
  • Maintain and document all payroll records.
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll records.
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts related to payroll transactions.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to uncollected payroll.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or concerns.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Experience with payroll processing and wage attachments.
  • Excellent organizational and mathematical skills.
  • Familiarity with Windows-based computer programs.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • In-depth conceptual and practical knowledge of payroll processing.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and resolve issues effectively.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Experience with US multi-state payroll processing (Canada experience is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of payroll practices, compliance, and internal controls.
  • Hands-on experience in end-to-end payroll processing.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency (working with large datasets, VLOOKUP, SUMIF).
  • Data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Experience with Excel automation techniques for payroll reconciliation and processing.

Pay: $27.30 – $39.00 /yr.
