What You Will Be Doing:
An opportunity exists for an experienced Release Manager 2 to join a dynamic Cloud Data Engineering team focused on Service Delivery. This team manages the DevOps and Product Support functions for critical data pipelines feeding a large-scale Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) and associated analytics environments (e.g., Power BI). The EDL serves reporting, analytics, and operational systems via batch, streaming, and API data layers. As Release Manager 2, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating the release and maintenance of these data pipelines, acting as a scrum master for DevOps and Support teams, driving process improvements, and ensuring smooth, reliable delivery in collaboration with various IT and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define, develop, and manage detailed plans for releasing data pipeline components into the Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) and related consumption environments.
- Act as a scrum master for global DevOps and Product Services (Support) teams, coordinating daily activities, facilitating planning meetings, managing work intake via JIRA Kanban boards, and actively removing blockers.
- Orchestrate and schedule complex release and maintenance activities, collaborating extensively with data engineering domain teams, IT infrastructure groups, and business stakeholders.
- Develop and execute clear and timely communication plans regarding status updates, system availability, potential impacts, and completion notifications for release and maintenance events.
- Proactively identify, document, assess, and mitigate risks and issues related to releases and maintenance, including dependency analysis and resource conflicts; recommend and help implement solutions.
- Track key release and maintenance milestones, monitor deployment health, define relevant quality metrics, and report on status and outcomes.
- Continuously evaluate and identify opportunities to improve and streamline release, deployment, and support processes, including championing automation efforts and facilitating lessons learned/retrospective sessions.
- Ensure security considerations are consistently integrated into all release and maintenance planning and execution activities.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships across diverse Information Technology teams.
- Support release deployment and infrastructure maintenance activities, acknowledging that these may sometimes occur during evening or weekend hours.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience working within a fast-paced Information Technology environment (roles may include software development, data engineering, release management, project management, IT operations, etc.).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience specifically working within an IT data engineering environment, IT release management function, or a formal IT support capacity.
- Demonstrated exceptional organizational skills with a meticulous attention to detail – this is essential.
- Proven, hands-on experience with IT Service Management (ITSM) change management processes and associated tools (e.g., ServiceNow or a similar enterprise system).
- Verifiable experience in assessing existing processes, identifying areas for modification or optimization, and collaborating effectively with stakeholders to implement those improvements.
- Strong leadership qualities, a team-centric working style, a proactive solution-oriented mindset, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to operate effectively and adapt priorities within a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- A fundamental commitment to incorporating security principles and best practices into all decisions and daily job responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain a work schedule that aligns with U.S. Central Standard Time core business hours for collaboration purposes.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a closely related technical field.
- Previous direct experience serving as a Release Manager or Scrum Master.
- Proficiency with various Software Development Lifecycles (SDLC) and methodologies (e.g., Waterfall, Agile).
- Experience working within a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environment.
- Solid understanding of release management and support management best practices, encompassing both application releases and infrastructure maintenance.
- Good knowledge of defining and tracking quality metrics related to IT releases and support.
- Good knowledge of resource management and tracking principles.
- Proficiency with relevant collaboration and project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Excel, Visio, Teams, SharePoint, Atlassian JIRA, Confluence, and ServiceNow.
- Experience in leading initiatives focused on improving application release and infrastructure maintenance processes, particularly through deployment automation.
